CARING YOUR SILVER JEWELLRY

Sterling Silver
Silver has been known and used for thousands of years and was believed to have magical properties which could promote healing and bring good luck. In ancient times, silver was used for jewelry, ornaments, utensils, and as a substance that could be bartered for other goods and services. Silver is Precious metal & much like gold it is too fine to be made in 100% form.

To make it durable for jewelry, pure silver (999 fineness) is often alloyed with some quantities of copper (7.5%), thus comes sterling silver 925. Copper is added to strengthen the silver & make it durable to be use as decorative or in fashionable jewelry.

jewelry. Now its your turn to take care of it, and it will depends on your care, for its long lasting, so take a good care of your silver jewelry.

These are some helpful hints on how to look after your silver jewelry.

Silver is scratch-resistant but not scratchproof. Polish your silver jewelry regularly using non-abrasive cleaning cloth, to maintain the original condition of silver jewelry.
Soap & water will also help keep your silver looking good. But do not dry silver with paper towel or tissues, always use soft cloth only.
When you are not wearing your silver jewelry, store them in a cool, dry place. Zip-luck bags or the individual cloth pouches are ideal for this & will help prevent both tarnishing or scratching with other pieces.
Never immerse your silver jewelry in chlorine, salt water, mineral spring, & suntan lotion. Be careful some household cleaning lotion contains chlorine bleach, these will cause discoloration & might help to losses the gems stone.
Never use an ultrasonic cleaner, ammonia or any chemical solution to clean opaque gemstone, such as turquoise, malachite, onyx, lapis lazuli & opals. They are porous stones & they may absorb the chemicals, & cause discoloration. Simply wipe them gently with a moist cloth until clean.
To remove tarnish or oxidation film from silver you can use fresh, uncontaminated commercial silver dip liquid, polish paste or polish cloth, available in jewelry suppliers or hardware stores. Make sure there are no loose stones or parts.

Limit the gemstone's exposure to silver cleaners - cleaners may harm certain kinds of gemstones.

Tarnish is a product of oxidation, caused by interacting of silver jewelry or objects with certain elements such as oxygen or sulfur as well as with certain acids. Tarnishing on silver jewelry, when worn on a regular basis, usually does not occur. Storage for a prolonged time causes silver jewelry to tarnish.

Usually, tarnish will not appear on jewelry that is worn on a regular basis. The gentle frictions from wearing and contact of oils on the skin will likely keep your jewelry bright and sparkling. Note though that taking certain medications can cause changes in skin acidity and may cause your jewelry to tarnish. Contact with rubber bands may cause tarnish - the sulfur in rubber is a catalyst for tarnish.

To keep your silver tarnish-free, frequently clean your silver in a mild dishwashing liquid diluted in water. Thoroughly dry your silver jewelry after exposure to water. Store silver in a dry container or a plastic bag with anti-tarnish paper.

It is recommended that you keep your sterling silver in an air-tight protective bag made of tarnish proof cloth or a plastic zip lock bag. Although your jewelry is scratch resistant it isn't scratch proof, so we recommend that you store your jewelry so that it isn't rubbing up against other articles. Also, when storing remember
that exposing it to air promotes tarnishing. Avoid storing your Sterling Silver Jewelry directly on wood surfaces, because wood usually contains acid that can mar the finish.

To Summarize
Do not allow your silver to come in contact with items containing sulfur like matches, rubber bands, etc.

Avoid your jewelry's contact with abrasive soaps, perfumes, sprays, dyes, etc.
To prevent tarnishing, wash jewelry with mild soap and water, rinse, and dry thoroughly.

Store in air tight zip luck bag.

Silver is a relatively soft metal and can scratch. Don't scrub with abrasives.

Use a jewelry polishing cloth to prevent tarnish.

Maintain the good shape of the bracelet, by following simple measure

Put the bracelet as shown in picture, after the bone, in the middle part of the hand. Then slowly push & turn. If the bracelet open too much then press the both end part only by holding the bracelet. & to take off apply same way. Adjust the open part of the bracelet, & slowly turn & pull from the arm.

Never press the bracelet, from the side, as shown, it develop stress at 1 point, which makes the stress point hard, & bracelet loose its shape. Doing this many times may break the bracelet at the stress point.
